Demand Sensing Synchronizes Supply Chains

Predicting demand and synchronizing inventory have been as elusive as finding one sure cure for head colds—or headaches.
Monthly forecasts are over-rated, yet according to AMR Research, 40% of retailers still forecast in monthly buckets—then that data bucket gets dumped the moment fresh sales information arrives.
Fortunately, 2008 is seeing encouraging news. Some retailers are getting more in sync. Intelligence-gathering is rippling back to manufacturers and back farther to raw-materials providers.
