RedPrairie acquires leading on-demand warehouse management (WMS) provider, SmartTurn
Addition of on-demand WMS means RedPrairie now provides a solution for distribution operations of all sizes and levels of complexities. More
What is SmartTurn?
Jim Burleigh: SmartTurn was created in 2004 with the mission of providing an inventory and warehouse management system (WMS) that fit the requirements of less complex distribution operations. We understood we needed to deliver a WMS in a cost and risk profile that matched their world, and felt an on-demand, or a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, provided a flexible channel to that market. Six years later, with over 200 implementations, we believe we’ve successfully delivered on the promise of a flexible, cost-effective solution. We’re excited about the RedPrairie acquisition because it brings together two very successful and uniquely different WMS models and opens some incredible collaboration opportunities across supply chain networks.
Why did RedPrairie acquire SmartTurn?
Mike Mayoras: SmartTurn has done an incredible job creating a flexible on-demand WMS that can be implemented quickly and at an attractive price point for companies with less complex distribution operations. When connected with our flagship WMS and other modules, we believe existing barriers to collaboration with supply partners will be erased, as large and small companies have greater visibility into their supply chain networks.
What are the current capabilities of SmartTurn’s On-Demand WMS?
Jim Burleigh: The solution includes the following functionality: purchasing, picking, receiving and put-away, inventory control, order management, shipping, integration, and mobile computing capabilities. Compliant with WS-I Web services architecture, SmartTurn’s solutions provide robust, real-time visibility of logistics operations with true, multi-tenant SaaS delivery.
What is the future of SmartTurn’s WMS product?
Mike Mayoras: The solution will be rebranded as RedPrairie’s On-Demand WMS and will focus on less complex distribution operations with rapid implementation demands and flexible pricing model requirements. Jim is leading these efforts and will currently focus on the North American market. Within weeks, we will offer a RedPrairie Integration Module that connects On-Demand WMS to our flagship WMS product.
What is the benefit of this acquisition to current RedPrairie customers? Current SmartTurn customers?
Mike Mayoras: I think it’s important that we now can offer our historical RedPrairie customers a WMS option for all of their distribution operations, regardless of size and complexity, and at an incredible value. As previously mentioned, collaboration across organizations of all sizes is critical in today’s supply chain environment. Our goal is to ensure that no one is excluded from the opportunity to have a technologically advanced WMS.
Jim Burleigh: Current SmartTurn customers should expect to see additional functionality and new technology as a result of this acquisition. On-Demand WMS will be integrated into the E²e™ productivity suite in a phased approach. And to our partners, we expect to strengthen and grow our relationships with you by leveraging RedPrairie’s brand and resources.
How will this acquisition impact RedPrairie’s on-demand offerings?
Mike Mayoras: We believe demand for flexible delivery models, especially SaaS offerings, will continue to grow. SmartTurn is a key addition to our on-demand offerings. RedPrairie has been offering hosted and SaaS-based solutions for over 10 years. This acquisition complements our on-demand portfolio, and helps us as demand grows. Jim Burleigh: We’ve learned a lot over the past several years about how supply chain executives want to leverage on-demand WMS solutions – and what is possible in an on-demand model. We look forward to sharing those experiences across RedPrairie and continuing to build on our expertise in the area. As Mike mentions, we believe demand for flexible delivery models is only going to grow.
What does RedPrairie’s On-Demand WMS solution cost? How long does it take to implement?
Jim Burleigh: SaaS is a pay‐as-you-go model which means a fixed cost each month. The cost is $1,200 per month per site with unlimited users, unlike other solutions which charge based on transactions and/or number of users. The average time for implementation is 30 to 60 days with some implementations taking as few as one calendar week depending on the level of integration and configuration.
