RedPrairie Testing Proves Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Ready for Mission-Critical E2e Supply Chain Solutions
Price – Performance Ratio and Total Cost of Ownership are Favorable for Complex, High Volume Distribution Operations
MILWAUKEE, Wis. and ORLANDO, Fl. - RedPrairie Corporation, a world leading consumer driven optimization company, announced today at RedShift 2007, its Tenth Annual User Conference, the successful completion of performance and scalability testing of RedPrairie® E2e™ Supply Chain Execution solutions running on the Microsoft technology platform, including Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. The tests, conducted over a two-week period at Microsoft’s Las Colinas, Texas, Testing Center, achieved over 500,000 order lines per hour processing speeds against a target of 300,000 order lines per hour. This is especially significant considering most order lines require execution of multiple SQL statements. These results complement previous performance and scalability testing at the same facility of RedPrairie Retail Productivity Solutions in which SQL Server 2005 FrontRunner status was achieved.
“We are very pleased with the results of these tests,” said Kim Saunders, director of SQL Server at Microsoft Corp. “Combined with previous retail test results, they demonstrate the interoperability between Microsoft and RedPrairie’s E2e solution. The results show SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition is an excellent choice for RedPrairie’s largest customers running complex, mission-critical applications. Microsoft is pleased to work with our global partners that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to develop innovative solutions using SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.”

Says Tom Kozenski, RedPrairie vice president product marketing, “There has been an evolution in the marketplace toward the Microsoft technology platform because of the lower total cost of ownership it affords our customers. The tests show running our supply chain solutions on SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition provides the price – performance ratio and scalability required by our high volume customers who run complex distribution operations.”
Mark Bovaird, manager application integration development for WC Bradley, the parent company of well-known brands Char-Broil, Zebco and Lamplight, concurs. “We are migrating our RedPrairie and other applications to the Microsoft platform because of the lower cost of ownership we can maintain without degrading performance. Anytime you can provide equal or better service at less cost, it’s a good thing.”
RedPrairie’s SOA architecture with concurrent processing capabilities allows its applications to take advantage of several major enhancements offered by SQL Server 2005.
Gary Morgan, RedPrairie vice president technology services, explains the impact of these improvements. “The virtualization of hardware and software allow RedPrairie's software solutions to exploit immense improvements in data center efficiency. There is no more need for dedicated hardware and back-up servers. We provide the processing power when you need it. It is this combination of significant run time savings, support for multi-terabyte real-time databases, and lower operating costs that makes the Microsoft platform an attractive alternative for our customers’ mission critical enterprise applications.”
RedPrairie applications and Microsoft technologies are on display at RedShift 2007.
